Game of Thrones saw a number of deaths this weekend as the forces of the Night King (played by Vladimir Furdik) descended onto Winterfell.
Although fans were mostly worried for the lives of Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), it was a former member of the Stark family who was killed off – Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen).
Theon returned to Winterfell to assist Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and the remainder of the Stark siblings to defend the keep from the White Walkers, and the undead.
However it didn’t end well for poor Theon, as he was stationed in the Godswood to protect Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) – which he did until the bitter end.
As the Night King arrived at the sacred garden, Theon charged toward the Lord of Night and was then stabbed with his own spear.
Many fans were utterly heartbroken by the loss of the character – but many more were left upset by the spoilers posted on Theon actor Alfie’s Instagram account.
Yesterday saw Alfie post an image of his bent and broken Greyjoy cuirass, hinting at his character’s fate.
And to make it even more obvious, Alfie captioned the image with a single broken heart emoji.
Followers of Alfie and fans of the show quickly hit out at the actor for potentially spoiling the fate of Theon before they saw the episode – as episode three of season eight first aired at 2am in the UK and Europe, and a second time at 9pm.
One commented on the photo: “Thanks for the spoiler.”
Another wrote: “You spoil your death so soon bro, such an incredible character.”
A third said: “This was a bit of a giveaway…”
With one adding: “You couldn’t wait 24 hours?”
Unfortunately for fans, this wasn’t the only image Alfie posted of the late warrior, as he then produced an image of Theon smiling moments before his death.
And Alfie wasn’t the only actor to post an image of the newly-deceased character, as Sansa star Sophie posted an image of Theon shortly after the episode aired in America.
She posted an image of Theon and wrote the caption: “To Alfie and to Theon….’You’re a good man’”.
And fans of the show were equally as unhappy about this spoiler, as one exclaimed: “This is considered to be a spoiler.”
While another said: “Why would you post this? People in the UK/EU haven’t seen it yet, could you not have waited like one more day before posting a huge spoiler publicly?”
Hopefully fans will not be spoiled before seeing the upcoming fourth episode of the show.
Meanwhile, it has been theorised Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) could kill Bran when it’s revealed he is truly the Night King.
One Redditor suggested: “I believe The [Night] King was going to give his sword to Bran and kneel just before he was stabbed.
“Azor Ahai playing out it’s prophecy and [prevented] this, but it may not be yet over. I still believe Bran is the true [Night King].”
Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
