PAUL Hollywood is spending thousands on a new love — an old Formula One car.
The Great British Bake Off star is restoring the single-seater as he gets over a bitter split from ex-girlfriend Summer Monteys-Fullam.
Bringing an F1 car back its former glory can cost as much as £250,000.
Paul, 53, snapped up a B200 Benetton chassis for an estimated £60,000 more than a year ago.
It was from a car raced by Austrian star Alexander Wurz in 2000. Petrolhead Paul is spending thousands more getting it “race ready” ahead of next year’s BOSS GP series — a competition for old F1 cars.
He plans to give it a run at charity events and motorsport meetings.
Pals say the project is helping keep his mind off of the very public fallout after ex-barmaid Summer, 24, dumped him earlier this month.
The baker — worth an estimated £10million — asked Mansell Motorsport in Tamworth, Staffs, to do the work.
They have spent months modifying the car to his liking – including installing a new engine that can make it hit 170mph.
A friend revealed that Paul is “thrilled” with how restoration of the car is going.
