Today’s edition featured a variety of storyline twists and presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford gave the reporter their rapt attention as she shed light on what’s to come on the cobbles, the Yorkshire Dales, and Albert Square.

But when Sharon teased Callum’s (played by Tony Clay) latest plot on the BBC soap, she couldn’t resist commenting that EastEnders

What’s more, an important conversation with another old colleague seems to reveal there is more to Callum’s grief than meets the eye.

The pair may have been secret lovers at the barracks – could Chris’s death be the catalyst that prompts Callum to reveal his true sexuality?

Sharing the details with Eamonn and Ruth, Sharon said: “Callum, now he’s been playing this storyline where he’s secretly gay.

“He shouldn’t be marrying Whitney. We’ve seen this old army friend who’s in love with someone called H.

“Callum’s nickname is Halfway,” Sharon then laughed, rolling her eyes. “Doesn’t take a genius to work out the guy that dies was his ex!”

The reporter swiftly moved on to discuss the rest of the soaps, giggling on the This Morning sofa all the while.

The character is currently engaged to Walford local Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), but is living a double life on the BBC soap.

Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) knows the truth, and the pair have been involved in secret trysts behind Whitney’s back, but is Callum safe from Ben’s mischievous and scheming ways?

Or will Ben end up dropping him in it on his wedding day in true EastEnders fashion?

In a new teaser clip from a scene at Chris’s funeral, Callum confides in his fellow colleague.

“Just can’t believe he’s gone,” he says wistfully, his face clouded with the memories.

“Losing your best mate, you two were inseparable,” the newcomer notes.

Callum nods in agreement, but the unease is clear as he wonders where this is going.

“Chris and Halfway, Halfway and Chris, never saw one of you without the other,” the funeral attendee reveals. “Used to think you made a very nice couple.”

Taken-aback, Callum does a good job of brushing his colleague’s comments away, but it’s clear there’s more to the story.

“Well you know how it is when you make a proper mate in the army!” the character adds hastily.

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One, and This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
