WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Jane the Virgin season 4

Jane Villanueva – Gina Rodriguez

Gina Rodriguez returns as the eponymous Jane Villanueva for Jane the Virgin season five.

Season four saw Jane’s late husband Michael (played by Brett Dier) seemingly return from the dead.

The fallout from this bombshell will be explored in season five.

Speaking to Vanity Fair about the upcoming series, Rodriguez said: “But season five is incredible — it still twists and turns.

“It’s gonna give you that same beautiful roller coaster of a ride of emotions and experiences.”

She added: “And there’s such beautiful episodes outside of the spaces that we’re used to, and it just really gives us a different scope of what Jane is going through and how we’re gonna close this whole story up and lead you into the spin-off.”

Rodriguez recently voiced Netflix’s Carmen Sandiego and had a role in Big Mouth.

WHAT TIME DOES JANE THE VIRGIN AIR?

Rafael Solano – Justin Baldoni

Actor and director Justin Baldoni stars as Jane’s current partner and (accidental) father of her child, Rafael Solano in season five.

No doubt Michael’s return will cause a stir for him in the upcoming episodes.

“I think fans can expect a full and happy season with a lot of drama and a nice ending,” Baldoni told BuzzFeed News.

Bladoni recently started in Madam Secretary and directed romantic film Five Feet Apart this year.

Xiomara ‘Xo’ Villanueva – Andrea Navedo

Xo, Jane’s laid back mother will be played by Andrea Navedo again in season five.

Season four saw Xo undergo treatment for breast cancer.

Navedo has also starred in Bright and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

WHO IS THE NARRATOR ON JANE THE VIRGIN?

Petra Solano – Yael Grobglas

Yael Grobglas returns as Rafael’s ex-wife Petra Solano for season five.

Season four saw her begin a relationship with Jane Ramos aka JR (Rosario Dawson).

Grobglas’ other roles include playing Trina in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Olivia in Reign.

Michael Cordero Jr – Brett Dier

Brett Dier is returning to season five as Michael has seemingly come back from the dead.

As Jane’s late husband and the love of her life, it was a shock to everyone when he turned up in the season four finale.

There are a number of theories doing the rounds about what is going on, with fans not ruling out the possibility of an evil twin, amnesia or a host of other telenovela tropes.

Dier has also starred in Ravenswood and The LA Complex.

WILL THERE BE A JANE THE VIRGIN SPIN-OFF?

Rogelio de la Vega – Jaime Camil

Jaime Camil returns as Jane’s biological father and former soap star Rogelio de la Vega for season five.

Rogelio and Xo got married in the season three finale.

Camil’s other roles include Charmed and Elena of Avalor.

Alba Villanueva – Ivonne Coll

Alba is Jane’s grandmother and Xo’s deeply religious mother.

Season four saw Alba finally granted American citizenship.

Coll’s other roles include One Day at a Time, Glee and Teen Wolf.

Jane the Virgin is known for its high profile guest stars, and some big names are returning for season five.

These include:

  • Rosario Dawson as Jane Ramos
  • Brooke Shields as River Fields
  • Johnny Messner as Chuck Chesser
  • Justina Machado as Darci Factor
  • Bridget Regan as Rose
