LOVE Island star Montana Brown has admitted that the rumours about why Sherif Lanre left the villa are worse than what actually happened.
The 23-year-old appeared on This Morning alongside former co-star Kem Cetinay, also 23, to discuss the Love Island hunk's shock departure, nine days after entering the show.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, she said of the swirling speculation of why he left: "The rumours are almost worse. They're always worse then what actually happened."
"I don't know what it's like this year but I feel like in our series ITV were really good at kind of pulling you up
on, 'You know that's not politically correct to say'.
Adding: "You say something really innocently and they'll pull you up to the Beach Hut and say, 'You can't say that. That's actually politically incorrect'.
"I feel the reason that he left is probably because ITV are very caring. They do try to protect their Islanders and would never want to show them in a negative light."
When asked by Phillip if Islanders get a "warning" before being removed from the Villa, Montana said: "That's what makes me think it might be something more serious because for him to full on leave…
"We've had contestants in previous years, in our year, people square up to each other, you get a warning.
"I think it was Jonny [Mitchell] and Theo[Campbell], they had a little square off and you know some unkind words were said and then I think they both got separated and then they had formal warnings."
While Montana discussed the shock departure, Kem said he didn't want to add to the mounting speculation: "We don't know whether he left or he was removed. We don't know yet until we know anymore information."
The comments come a day after it was revealed that Sherif was thrown out for breaking villa rules — which include a strict ban on masturbation.
The chef, 20, admitted after leaving nine days in: "I didn't conduct myself in the right way."
Producers on the ITV2 show refused to reveal what he did.
But it sparked speculation over which rule he broke — with nudity or outside communication also prohibited.
Sherif's mum Diana said: "I don’t know the real reason yet, but I'm determined to get to the bottom of it."
Sources say Sherif spent long periods alone in bed and hiding in the shower. One told The Sun: "He's been refusing to get up and take part in chats with the others and said he didn’t like any of them.
"When producers told Islanders they have to get ready to film a challenge, Sherif was deliberately spending ages in the shower. He said he couldn’t be bothered."
Sources claimed he contacted the outside world while in the villa but bosses would not confirm or deny it.
Sherif said in a statement: "In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers it was best for me to leave."
There were no scenes with Sherif in last night's episode, with his departure only acknowledged in the narration.
Anna Vakili, who Sherif had paired up with, is staying and can meet someone new.
A Love Island spokesman said: "After breaking villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed he would leave."
