TV presenter Laura Hamilton, who regularly jets around the world to host property show A Place In The Sun, is currently learning to fly and recently opened up about the experience. The 38-year-old self-confessed adrenalin junkie detailed a “terrifying” ordeal, which saw her aircraft go into a spin.
Laura said her instructor was teaching her how to recover from a spin, but had to step in to take the control wheel and right the plane.
The Channel 4 star made her comments during an appearance on James Martin’s Saturday Morning.
“We were low speed flying and it ended up spinning to the ground, which looks quite terrifying but actually, you’ve got to learn how to recover from a spin,” she explained.
“Cause if you don’t recover from it, then it’s not a good ending,” the chef candidly interjected.
“Thankfully I did – well I didn’t recover – but he did,” Laura exclaimed.
The host then showed a clip of the incident which captured Laura’s fear and very loud screams.
Despite the obvious dangers, Laura said she had always wanted to learn to fly and found it a perfect way to escape her busy day-to-day life.
Talking to fellow flyer James, who gained a private pilot’s licence over a decade ago, the mum-of-two said being forced to concentrate on one thing helped her “switch off” and not worry about other aspects of her life.

“I don’t switch off very easily and you know, being a pilot yourself, you know, when you are flying you can only focus on what is going on in that [moment]…”
“Well Laura, you are concentrating on staying alive, to be brutally honest with you,” James interjected.
A Place In The Sun continues tonight at 6pm on Channel 4.
