NCIS season 18 will begin on CBS next week as the stars of the much-loved crime procedural return. Among those back is David McCallum who is one of the original cast members of the show. Here’s what the actor himself has revealed about his personal life outside the series.

When NCIS returns to CBS with its 18th season, very few original cast members will be reprising their roles on the show.

However, McCallum is one of them ever since he joined the series way back in the pilot.

The British actor first came to recognition playing Illya Kuryakin in the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. back in the 1960s.

He went on to star in several popular projects like Colditz, Kidnapped and Mother Love.

Although in recent years, many will recognise him best at the NCIS medical examiner Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard.

In the upcoming season 18, he is also going to play a big part in the show’s 400th episode as it explores how he and Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) first met.

Given his starring role on the show, many fans have also been left curious to find out more about the actor behind the character.

Here’s what the star has previously revealed about his family life away from the cameras.

How did David McCallum meet his wife Katherine Carpenter?

Carpenter was McCallum’s second wife after his marriage to Jill Ireland broke down.

The pair had met filming the movie Hell Drivers and were together for 10 years.

After Ireland and McCallum divorced, she married actor Charles Bronson.

McCallum and Ireland had three sons together named Paul, Jason and Valentine.

However, Jason sadly died of a drug overdose in 1989.

McCallum and his second wife Katherine Carpenter have been married since 1967.

The pair met after the actor’s split from Ireland when Carpenter was working as a fashion model.

She was 21-years-old at the time and the pair were reportedly inseparable when he and his first wife parted ways.

This was so much the case, when McCallum went on a press tour to Japan to promote Man from U.N.C.L.E., he brought Carpenter along with him.

In an interview with Kurt Miller quoted on davidmccallumfansonline.com, one of the actor’s friends opened up about how their romance began.

They said: “David was deeply hurt. He started to retreat into a shell.

“Then he met Katherine Carpenter. She’s made a new man of him.”

Together, the pair have two children, a son named Peter and a daughter named Sophie.

NCIS season 18 begins on CBS on November 17, 2020.
