Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael, 32, was the picture of happiness, as she attended the Film Gala with her co-star and boyfriend Michael Fox.

The actress made a bold statement in a plunging asymmetrical top with skinny green trousers as she arrived with her dapper partner, as they arrived for the star-studded bash.

Opting to forego the usual glamorous gown or party frock, Laura made sure all eyes were on her as she arrived for the evening, sporting the pretty floral bandeau top which boasted a quirky frill trim.

The frill trim – knotted at the waist – reached all the way to the floor, giving the illusion to some that it was part of some dress.

Adding to the look Laura was sporting the tight forest green capri bottoms with pale pink strapped heels, and her blonde bobbed tresses in a loosely curled style.

Meanwhile Michael was looking totally dapper in a sharp navy blue suit with a classic black tie as he walked the red carpet, in a rare outing for the couple since they supposedly sparked up a romance last year.

Tom Hiddleston, 37, cut a dapper figure as he stepped out in a navy blue suit, which he paired with a crisp white shirt that he opted not to wear a tie with.

The stars are gearing up to turn out in force at the 2019 British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the third year in a row, after the move from the Royal Opera House.

Joanna Lumley will return for a second stint behind the podium for the 72nd annual awards after impressing last year in place of Stephen Fry while Cirque de Soleil will also be back with another performance after their 2018 tribute to Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water.

Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Favourite has swept the nominations with 12 nods in top categories including a Best Actress chance for its star Olivia Colman, Supporting Actress nominations for Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz and a shot at Best Film.

The Favourite will compete with A Star Is Born, BlacKkKlansman, Green Book and Roma for Best Film but surprisingly, after its success at last month’s Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody was snubbed in the category.

The Favourite is nominated in 12 categories. Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man, Roma and A Star Is Born each have seven nominations; Vice has six, BlacKkKlansman has five, and Cold War and Green Book have four each. Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Mary Poppins Returns, Mary Queen of Scots and Stan & Ollie have three nominations each.

The 2019 nod marks Olivia’s sixth BAFTA nomination but her first for a film role after previously winning for TV hits Twenty Twelve, Accused and Broadchurch.

Olivia competes against Glenn Close for The Wife, Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born, Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ and Widows star Viola Davis, but in another shock snub, Mary Poppins Returns lead Emily Blunt has missed out on a nomination.

In fact, Mary Poppins Returns only received nominations in the technical categories for BAFTA, with three nods in total for Best Film Music, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Olivia’s chances at scoring her first film BAFTA have only increased after she took home the Best Actress Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy for The Favourite at the Golden Globes.

Leading man: The Les Misérables star stood solo for some photographs, while his other half waited on the sidelines

Cosy: Eddie put a protective arm around Hannah’s waist as they posed together on the red carpet

Olivia’s critically-acclaimed film was released last month and follows the love triangle Queen Anne forms with two of her female courtiers, played by Emma and Rachel, who are both nominated in the Best Supporting Actress Category.

The Favourite is also nominated for Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Make Up & Hair, Editing and Yorgos Lanthimos for Director.

Bohemian Rhapsody could build on its surprise success at the Golden Globes with its seven BAFTA nominations, but it has missed out on chance at the Best Film prize.

The Queen biopic provided the biggest shock of the 2019 Golden Globes when it beat favourite A Star is Born to take home the Best Motion Picture Drama prize, which followed a win for leading man Rami Malek.

At ease: The pair appeared to be completely at ease, not feeling the need to flaunt their romance for the cameras

Rami is nominated for the BAFTA Leading Actor where he will again compete against A Star Is Born’s Bradley Cooper as well as Viggo Mortensen and British actors Christian Bale and Steve Coogan.

Bale is the favourite to take home Leading Actor for his incredible transformation into Dick Cheney for Vice.

A Star Is Born has scored the same number of BAFTA nominations as its rival Bohemian Rhapsody, with seven chances. As well as its Best Actor nod for Bradley, who also receives a nomination for Direction, Lady Gaga is nominated for Leading Actress.

Chic pair: The duo’s ensembles complimented each other, with both oping for a simple twist to classic looks

Close: Whenever possible, the couple stayed close together, with Eddie holding Hannah into his side

The singer will again compete with Glenn Close for The Wife, who beat her in another surprise Golden Globes result. Melissa McCarthy and Viola Davis along with Colman make up the category.

The bookies favourites Glenn, Gaga and Olivia will go head to head at the BAFTAs as unlike the Golden Globes, there are not separate acting categories for drama, musical or comedy.

Also receiving seven nominations is Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma which is nominated for Best Film, Film Not in the English Language, Director, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design and Editing.

Handsome: The star sported a touch of designer stubble, adding to his handsome visage

Natural beauty: Hannah eschewed glamorous make-up, allowing her natural beauty to shine through

Cuaron will be a tough competitor in the Direction category, after winning best director honours at the Golden Globes for his ode to his own childhood in 1970s Mexico City.

First Man also joins the seven nominations club with nods for Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Sound, and Special Visual Effects, as well as Supporting Actress for Claire Foy.

British talent Claire, who plays Neil Armstrong’s wife in the moon landings biopic, will compete with The Favourite’s Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, Margot Robbie for Mary Queen of Scots and Amy Adams for Vice.

Supporting Actor also includes big names with Adam Driver for BlacKkKlansman competing against the Golden Globe winner Mahershala Ali for Green Book as well as Richard E. Grant for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Vice star Sam Rockwell and Timothee Chalamet for Beautiful Boy.
