Kevin Clifton, 37, was speaking with younger sister and former Strictly Come Dancing colleague Joanne Clifton, 36, on the latest edition of his podcast when the revelation of his “tantrums” was brought too light. The siblings, who grew up dancing together in their native Grimbsy, would often compete in ballroom championships which drove Kevin to feel competitive at the time.

However, Kevin claimed he is not “that competitive” now he has gotten older.

Joanne interjected: “You use to be, oh my gosh, tantrums galore.”

Kevin explained: “Yeah when I was younger, but now I don’t naturally think I’m that competitive until someone pisses me off.

“Until someone gives me a reason and this is why…did you see The Last Dance on Netflix about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls?” He asked.

Joanne replied: “I only saw a bit of it.“

Kevin continued: “Right, so Michael Jordan was saying on there that he needed that sort of juice to fire him up.

“If you’re comfortable, he wasn’t as good a player. He always said if someone had something bad to write about him.

“Or someone critiques him, or someone tells him, ‘You’re not the best player in the world’ then that would give him this fire.”

Kevin related the Netflix basketball series to how Joanne was driven to win her third season of the show.

He said: “I think that’s what happened with you, you didn’t have a partner in 2015, so it made you into the 2016 winner.”

Joanne appeared on Strictly Come Dancing until 2016 when she left the show on a high after winning the Glitterball Trophy with Ore Oduba.

As casting for the new season begins, the West End star revealed that she would not rule out a return to the programme.

She told previously: “I would never say never because it’s such a nice show to work on.

“My three years I was on it, I loved the pro dancers, the cameramen, the people behind the scenes, the production, even the makeup and hair people.”

Joanne has worked a hectic schedule, appearing in musicals such as Rocky Horror Show, since she moved on from Strictly.

However, she describes the programme as her “happy place” and where she feels most at home.

Joanne continued: “It’s such a nice happy place to be, when I was on it there were no egos. We all knew the main goal was to put on a heck of a good show, for the 12 million who were watching. It was everyone’s main goal.”

For now, Joanne is not ruling out a return to the show, but she is enjoying exploring different professional avenues.

“Never say never, but I am very happy on stage, it’s been a passion of mine since I was a little kid, and now I’m living it out. I just feel at home on stage”, she added.

Kevin meanwhile stepped down from the BBC show earlier this year but is expected to make an appearance in the Strictly Ballroom tour.
