Nipsey Hussle was announced to be performing at The Ends festival, shortly before his death.
The Racks In The Middle rapper, who died in March, was set to be taking to the stage alongside a string of famous faces – including Wizkid, Nas and NSG – to celebrate the debut festival in Croydon.
And Maleek Berry has confirmed there will be a tribute to the late rapper, following his passing.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk ahead of his performance, the Kontrol star told us: ‘We’re going to try and do something, because I’m a big fan.
‘It’s unfortunate but we’ll definitely try and figure something out on that day. I know there has to be some sort of tribute.’
The 31-year-old also revealed the pair were due to get in the studio together before Nipsey passed away.
‘Ironically, we were actually supposed to do something when I went up to LA,’ he continued. ‘He was supposed to jump on one of my remixes two years ago but that never happened, I don’t know why.
‘Someone from his camp was talking to him about it, and he said he was excited to do stuff and connect with the African sound.’
As well as The Ends, Maleek will be performing his own set at Wireless for the first time, later in the year.
And on top of all that, he is also bringing out his debut album, making sure 2019 is his year.
‘I feel like I’ve got so much more to do,’ he insisted.
‘I’ve got the new album, my debut album is going to be amazing. I’ve really taken my time to just write a song our generation can relate to, and can stand the test of time.
‘I’m taking the music seriously.
‘The [African] sound is spreading across the state, across Europe, everywhere, really. The revolution has begun. There just needs to be more artists, more sub genres, and it needs to be better documented.
‘And it’s gonna grow, you know, because there’s a lot of new, exciting artists coming up.
‘The revolution has begun.’
We’re ready for it.
The Ends festival is taking place 31 May – 2 June, in Lloyd Park, Croydon. Visit LiveNation.co.uk for more information and tickets.
