After nearly a year-and-a-half in jail, Mystikal could be released on bail later this week.
Attorneys for the rapper, whose real name is Michael Taylor, told TMZ over the weekend that thanks to help from his family and friends and an expected new record deal, he could be out by the end of the week.
According to Mystikal’s legal team, the deal, plus money raised by his friends and family, should be enough to cover his bail which is set at $3 million. The rapper’s new deal is for three records, and he’s hoping to get an advance this week.
Mystikal has been in prison since August 2017, when he turned himself in on charges of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping after a Louisiana woman came forward to accuse him of sexual assault.
The rapper pleaded not guilty to the charges that December. He is expected to go on trial this May.
A request for comment from Mystikal’s legal reps was not immediately returned.
