Pep Guardiola admits ‘I am a disaster’ during football writers’ dinner as he rocks up in jeans and an Icon jumper hours after Manchester City beat Southampton 6-1

PEP GUARDIOLA claimed he was "a disaster" after turning up to the Football Writers' Association North West Managers' awards dinner in just jeans and a jumper.

The Man City boss was due at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester to be honoured for winning the Premier League last term.

But he did not get the memo of the dress code after arriving straight from his side's ruthless 6-1 demolition of Southampton in the same clothes.

And the Spaniard could only apologise for being so casual at the beginning of his speech.

He said: "Good evening, a little bit embarrassing. I am a disaster. I didn't expect how important this event… everybody is so elegant with a suit and tie. And I come here.

"Believe me I didn't know it, I promise you next time – well, should we win – I will be more properly like this event deserves. I am so sorry."

The former Barca and Bayern boss then thanked the audience for making him feel welcome since his arrival to England in 2016.

He said: "I am fortunate to be here in your country, in England. It is incredible, a dream like a little boy and then a young manager to come here in your country and be manager here. It is a dream come true.

"I want to share this award for the whole Manchester City family because it is a real family. I know people say "hey you have a lot of money" and that's true, that's true.

"But in spite of that, it is incredible, the people I am working with. I am a lucky guy to be here."

Guardiola has earned the reputation as a fashionista since his arrival in England.

The 47-year-old used to rock Stone Island in his early days at the club but SunSport exclusively revealed that the brilliant clothing line Dsquared2 began a partnership with the boss and his all-star City team.

Pep and Man City are back in action against Shakhtar Donetsk next in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The match kicks-off at 7.45pm.
