Who's the most followed person on Instagram? From Cristiano Ronaldo to Ariana Grande – here are the most popular accounts

SOCIAL media site Instagram is one of the most widely-used apps in the world.

And while many of us have managed to garner a few hundred followers on the platform, celebs have raked in tens of millions – here are the most followed accounts.

Who's the most followed person on Instagram?

Cristiano Ronaldo reigns supreme when it comes to the most Instagram followers.

He has knocked the former champion, Selena Gomez, off the top spot.

She was the most followed through both 2016 and 2017, and even racked up an extra 24million followers in the 12 months between.

But now the footballer has taken over with a whopping 175.9million followers compared to Selena's 153.7million.

Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.

The footballer knocked Justin Bieber out of the top ten list, surpassing his 116million followers.

And it's good news for the Kardashians and for Queen Bey, with Beyonce falling from fifth to seventh place, behind Kim and Kylie.

And it's a close race between the two sisters, with youngest Kardashian sister Kylie soaring in popularity to finish just one million followers behind Kim.

Kylie also lost her record for most-liked photo on Instagram.

Her post of her holding Stormi's hand racked up more than 18million likes, but she lost out to an egg.

A plain photo of an egg has overtaken the mum-of-one to hold the record, and currently has 50million likes on the social media platform.
