How Edward ‘takes lead from’ Sophie – Countess has ‘superior confidence and experience’

Sophie Countess of Wessex, formerly Sophie Rhys-Jones, married Prince Edward in 1999.

They couple wed at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, and Sophie wore a royal tiara and jewellery bought by her husband.

The couple have had two children Lady Louise Windsor, who is 15, and James, Viscount Severn, 11.

Theirs is the only first marriage among Queen Elizabeth II’s child to survive, and a body language has offered an insight as to why.

Sophie Countess of Wessex Prince Edward anniversary: He ‘takes his lead from’ wife

Judi James revealed that it is Sophie who leads the way in this relationship, something that has been clear since their engagement photographs, according to the expert.

“Sophie’s superior levels of confidence and perhaps life experience showed here but the duo looked as though they shared the same goals and thinking,” Judi said.

“The way Sophie holds onto Edward’s arm suggested she would be his anchor in life.”

It seems this a theme that has continued. Last year at Royal Ascot 2018 Judi observed of the couple: “Sophie’s body language suggests no active desire to scene-steal here as she stands with one knee bent in and some modestly-placed hand gestures, but again it’s Edward who seems happy to suppress his own royal status to make her the focus of his attention.

“His hands on the hips pose might look pure Alan Partridge but the way he face-watches his wife suggests she’s not only the centre of his attention, she’s also the one he is amused by and takes his lead from.”

Why has Sophie Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward’s marriage stood the test of time while others have failed.

“Of all the Queen’s children, Edward was perhaps the one least expected to make a strong, long-term marriage,” Judi said.

“Having quit the Royal Marine training in a rather emotional escape he began as a tea-boy for a theatre company before showing both his talent for making bad decisions and his more high-handed, belligerent side by first organising the ill-fated ‘It’s a Royal Knock-out’ and then storming out of the press interview in a strop when journalists gave it a less than enthusiastic reception.

His attempt at his own production company failed after he featured royal events and had even been accused of invading his own nephew’s privacy.”

“But then as Charles, Anne and Andrew created an unexpectedly low bar in terms of marriage survival rates, now suddenly it’s Edward looking like the son with the relationship staying power after all.”

Judi claimed that this was largely down to Sophie.

“A successful PR with her own firm she integrated into the Royal Family in a very unfussy way and was a perfect complement for her husband’s trait of apparently taking himself a little too seriously.”

Sophie Countess of Wessex looked “restrained” at Royal Ascot 2019 this week according to fans.

She was styled to perfection, with a hat that perfectly matched the dress.

With a funnel neck and elbow-length sleeves, the gown was a glamorous throwback with a modern edge.
