Eamonn Holmes’ wife had previously revealed that she was starting to feel “uncomfortable” in her clothing but has now taken the next step to keep active and regularly shares videos of herself skipping and working out at home.
Speaking about her fitness and previous concerns with her weight, Ruth revealed the she had been a size 12 for most of her life before weight gain “creeping up” after she hit 50.
“When I put on any weight, I can’t shift it and that’s making me a bit fed up,” she told Woman back in 2019.
“I was basically a size 12 all my life, and then, when I hit 50, the weight crept up and 12s were feeling a bit snug.
“Eventually I went, ‘Ruth, just admit it, you’re now a size 14’, and I was fine with that. And now everything that is a 14 is tight. I eat healthily and go to the gym, but it’s just not shifting.”
Later on, in 2017, Ruth joined the lineup for Strictly Come Dancing and felt herself getting slimmer.
“When I did Strictly in 2017, everything suddenly started to fit and I had my waist again,” she said.
“But you can’t recreate that kind of exercise in real life. I don’t obsess about it, but I feel uncomfortable, like I’m squashed into my clothes.”
Last year Ruth revealed that she was looking into counting calories during a segment on This Morning in which Eamonn received backlash.

Revealing his wife had been using a dietary tracking app, Eamonn said: “Ruth has done the typical trap where she said lose weight – obviously.
“She’s got one of these app things that told her how many calories she’s restricted to, bearing in mind her bulk, how much intake she can have a day.”
Ruth explained that she was consuming 1,200 calories a day because of her “bulk, age and height”. However, Eamonn chimed in: “That’s because you’re very fat, that’s why,” he chimed in.
Brushing off the comment, Ruth then scalded her husband: “Oh my goodness, you’re going to get ‘stop being mean to your wife’.”
