Huge crowds and queues have been seen outside England’s favourite shops as consumers try to stock up for the November lockdown. Shops have been pleading with customers to shop sensibly and have reassured panic buyers that stock will not run out throughout the month-long lockdown.
Pictures of huge crowds in Birmingham, London, Manchester, and more city centres have been posted on social media in recent days as preparations for the winter lockdown get underway.
England is now in lockdown until December 2 after regional measures failed to stop the spread of the virus.
It follows several days of new infections coming in at over 20,000 a day, with hospitals across England warning they won’t be able to cope with a second peak at the current infection rate.
The new lockdown resembles that of the spring lockdown, except schools and nurseries will be open throughout the month and construction work can still go ahead.
Pubs, bars and restaurants are now all closed, but can still operate for takeaway or delivery.
A stay at home order has been issued by the Prime Minister, with inter-region travel off the cards unless absolutely necessary and no travel to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Socialising with people outside of your own household is now banned unless you live on your own when you can form an extended household with another group all living under the same roof.
Essential retailers are allowed to stay open for this lockdown, much like in the spring – but are TK Maxx and B&M in this category?
Is TK Maxx closing in second lockdown?
TK Maxx has closed some of their stores for lockdown while others remain open.
You can use their store locator to see if your nearest store is still open.
Express.co.uk has contacted TK Maxx for full comment and will update this story.
TK Maxx is still available to shop online, although click and collect services have now been cancelled.
The popular retailer has brought in a range of safety measures for staff and customers, including reinstating the limit on how many people can be in store and installing safety glass at checkouts.

Is B&M closing in second lockdown?
B&M will be remaining open during the second lockdown.
B&M issued a statement this week, which reads: “As an essential retailer and on Government advice we remained open in the first lockdown.
“B&M was proud to serve our communities and we will be doing so again.
“Our colleagues are working tirelessly to make sure you can get all of the items you need.
“So there’s no need to panic buy – our warehouses are full and we are working super hard to keep stock flowing into stores.”
You should check with your local store for amended opening times and safety measures.
Different rules apply for TK Maxx and B&M stores in the devolved nations, which currently have their own sets of restrictions.
