Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Slam Reports Their Netflix Deal Includes a Reality Show

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, signed a $150 million deal with Netflix earlier this month to produce a variety of exclusive content for the streaming service. Like Barack and Michelle Obama, Harry and Meghan have created a production company to produce documentaries, docu-series, family programming, and feature-length films. But, contrary to reports, the one thing that they won’t do is take part in a reality show.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are looking for more work

According to OK! Magazine, Harry and Meghan aren’t resting on their laurels after inking their Netflix deal. The couple is reportedly looking to book high-dollar speaking engagements. However, they have a list of demands before they commit to anything, an insider claims.

“They need assurances about audience reach, connectivity [plans], the organizers they’re working for, and iron-clad contracts that give them financial security,” the source dished. “They require money upfront and assurances that sponsors won’t drop out. Plus smaller things like first-rate sound quality and adequate time to prepare.”

The source adds that Harry and Meghan are demanding a $1 million fee for “select appearances.” Apparently, the duke and duchess are “acutely aware that the eyes of the world are on them.” There is no room for risks or silly mistakes, and they aren’t leaving anything to chance.

If they have to micromanage, they will because they want to avoid anything “disastrous” from a PR perspective. Another source says Harry and Meghan are looking to rebuild their reputation after leaving the royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex already have two Netflix projects in the works

With the ink barely dry on their contract, Harry and Meghan already have two projects in the works for Netflix. According to Express, the two shows confirmed to be currently in development are a nature docu-series and an animated series celebrating inspiring women.

This Netflix deal has allowed Harry and Meghan to achieve the financial independence they desired. But, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claims the couple will have to make “sacrifices” because of it.

Fitzwilliams says Harry and Meghan will have to balance their desire for privacy with the goals of their production company. Meghan’s rep has stated that she has no plans to return to acting. But, the couple could appear on screen in some of their projects. And, they need to be prepared for the media scrutiny.

“It is important to remember that they have global reach and the reported scale of the Netflix deal reflects this, though it may, of course, mean sacrifices,” Fitwilliams said. “The deal represents a royal flush for the streaming giant.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have no interest in reality TV

Earlier this week, a report emerged claiming that Harry and Meghan’s new Netflix deal would include a reality TV show. Someone who called themselves an insider claimed that Harry and Meghan wanted to do a “fly on the wall” Netflix documentary.

The fake source claimed it would be a reality-style show that would “give people a glimpse into their lives and sese all the charity work they do.”

However, according to Hello! Magazine, Harry and Meghan have slammed the report via their spokesperson.

“The Duke and Duchess are not taking part in any reality shows,” their spokesperson said.

A Netflix spokesman also commented about the false report. They said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have several projects in development. This includes the previously mentioned nature docu-series and the animated series.

However, Netflix said they are not disclosing Harry and Meghan’s programming slate at this time. Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings added that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have developed a great eye for a story. They are producers, and the streaming service will be working with them on that basis.
