My daughter-in-law was 27 and had turned against me.
She seemed to think my husband and I had been more generous financially with our daughter but actually we paid the deposit on my son’s – her husband’s – house, too.
I’m 60. I wrote to my son and daughter-in-law but got no response.
You told me not to give up hope and to keep trying.
I kept on texting and emailing as I reckoned my son would be missing us. I invited them to a big family barbecue in the summer and finally they accepted.
It was a bit awkward at first but we had fun and they even emailed thanking me afterwards.
Our Christmas this year was at their home with our new baby grandson and it was wonderful.
