11pm Chelsea transfer news LIVE: Lamptey Brighton move EXCLUSIVE, Mertens bid, Blues ‘lead’ Ziyech chase, Cavani LATEST – The Sun

FRANK LAMPARD is growing increasingly frustrated as Chelsea have £150m to spend but have signed fewer players than they did in the summer… under a transfer ban.

But the Blues have reportedly begun negotiations with Dries Mertens as they look to improve their options on the wing while Olivier Giroud and Willian could still leave the club.

  • NO RUN OF THE MIL

Former England international Danny Mills believes Spurs signing Olivier Giroud is a “no-brainer”.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He’s not a goalscorer, but what he does do is his team play, the way he brings people into a game is sensational.

“The way that Mourinho plays, he likes a big centre-forward, he likes a target man – somebody to play the ball into, hold the ball up, bring people into play. He likes that focal point. There’s no surprise.

“The move across London would suit Giroud.

“When you’re looking at if you can get him in, then yeah, I think that’s a no-brainer.”

  • MIAMI MISSION

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed that the club have spoken to Man Utd and Chelsea target Edinson Cavani.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mas confirmed that talks have been held.

He said: “We’ve had conversations about Edison Cavani but I don’t want to make any further comment on that based on the fact he’s a PSG player at this time.”

  • ROUD NOT TO

Former Spurs third-choice goalkeeper has urged the club to sign ex-Arsenal ace Olivier Giroud as he compared him to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Speaking to Love Sport Radio, he said: “Someone like Giroud would be great. He’s a top striker, and he wouldn’t mind playing second fiddle to Kane – he would know his role.

“He’s one they should look at, because he knows how to play up top on his own.

“He’s like Drogba – he can hold the ball up, win headers, link the play and be a real focal point for the side.

“I can’t see anyone coming in for fifty million and being a real top player, but Giroud could do a job for Spurs so maybe he’s one to get over the line”.

  • CUP OF TEY

Exclusive by Duncan Wright: Brighton have won the race to sign Chelsea academy prospect Tariq Lamptey.

The 19-year-old has snubbed the offer of a new deal at Stamford Bridge and will complete his move today/tomorrow/Friday after the Seagulls agreed an undisclosed fee with the Blues.

Lamptey had been in talks with Lille over signing a pre-contract agreement to move to France when his contract with Chelsea ran out at the end of this season.

But Brighton boss Graham Potter moved quickly to persuade the defender his best option would be to make the switch to the Amex.

Lamptey made a huge impression in his first team debut for Chelsea in the win at Arsenal and boss Frank Lampard was keen to keep him in his squad.

But the right-back, who can also play midfield, had concerns that his first team opportunities would be limited by having to compete with Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James for a place in the side.

Potter sold Lamptey on the prospect of being given the chance to develop with more regular senior football at a club that likes to play football on the ground.
