Pochettino ‘convinces Ceballos to join Spurs’ as Real Madrid midfielder sold on North London transfer – The Sun

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has spoken directly to Dani Ceballos to convince the Real Madrid midfielder to join Spurs, according to reports in Spain.

The 22-year-old has been considered surplus to requirements at Bernabeu but the North London club has faced stiff competition for his signature.

AC Milan and Arsenal have tracked the star, but Spurs were said to be in pole position as they are the only club playing Champions League football.

And the European Cup finalists are now expected to complete a deal after Ceballos spoke directly with boss Pochettino, according to AS.

The report claims that the Argentine manager made it clear in the conversation that the former Real Betis star would be a key part of his plans for next season.

Spurs, who broke their transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele earlier this week, will have to stump up another £45million to sign Ceballos.

The Premier League side may negotiate a loan agreement with Madrid however with could include an option to buy as part of the deal.

SunSport exclusively revealed the La Liga giants already offered Tottenham £45m plus Ceballos to get their hands on Christian Eriksen.

Ceballos was used sparingly by Los Blancos last season but he was one of Spain's key stars as they secured the European Under-21 Championship this summer.

And he revealed this week that he wants more playing time at a "place where I can feel valued, wherever it is doesn't matter."

He said: "The most important thing in life is to be happy and that can only happen by playing 40 games a year.

"My personal goal for next season is to play 40 games and to be comfortable at all times."
