Bake Off contestant Dan will join Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in the GBBO tent this year as he vies for the title of star baker each week on the Channel 4 series. Dan is just one of the 13 new contestants to take part on Great British Bake Off this year in its youngest ever line-up. Dan’s described getting on Bake Off as “absolutely crazy” and here’s what fans need to know about him.
Who is new Great British Bake Off contestant Dan?
Dan is a 32-year-old support worker from Rotherham in Yorkshire.
The Bake Off star is mainly self-taught and is a proud vegetarian.
He’s no stranger to working under pressure having baked his own wedding cake.
On Instagram, Dan regularly shares pictures of his fabulous looking creations on his public Instagram page – @dancbakes (see below).
Dan admitted prior to joining the 2019 line-up he had tried to appear on Bake Off for a “few years now”.
He told Channel 4: “I have been trying for a few years now, so finally I am here. It’s absolutely crazy,
“Really amazing, I was so adamant to get on, it’s very hard to describe the feelings, all strange and surreal.
“Then when you are in the tent it all feels normal pretty quickly.”
Dan also thinks it’s his co-workers who will be the most surprised to see him on-screen.
Being 32 years of age means Dan is actually one of the older contestants heading into the tent this year.
The GBBO 2019 line-up has an average age of just 31.
The remaining Great British Bake Off 2019 contestants are:
- Amelia, 24
- Phil, 56
- Rosie, 28
- Steph, 28
- Priya, 34
- Alice, 28
- Michael, 26
- Jamie, 20
- Helena, 40
- Henry, 20
- Michelle, 35
- David, 36
Being such a huge Bake Off fan, Dan described to Channel 4 how surreal it was to see the tent for the first time.
He said: “The first time I saw the white peaks of the tent it gave me butterflies,
“But also you feel so excited at the same time.”
Dan will be hoping he has what it takes to make it all the way to the GBBO final.
The Great British Bake Off 2019 starts at 8pm on Tuesday, August 27 on Channel 4.
