Cheat viewers were fuming tonight after another animal was seemingly killed in the shock ending.
The ITV drama came to a brutal climax in the series finale after some loose ends were tied up.
In a sudden twist, Rose confessed that Adam actually let her go and she murdered him in cold blood with a letter opener.
It was a happy ending for Leah, but not everyone was so lucky, as Rose wanted to get revenge on one last victim.
But viewers feared that an innocent dog had been killed after hearing it yelp right before the end.
William, who Rose was brought up to believe was her father, was walking his dog through the woods.
Strange university porter Ben was stalking him while holding a knife and whistled for the black Labrador to come towards him.
The dog bounded towards him before the action cut to William hearing his dog yep in pain.
Reading out a letter to Leah, Rose said: "I realised the only way I can forgive mum is go back to the start and sort things with William. So that’s what I did. I think I’ve started to feel better already. Love Rose."
Creepy Ben continued to watch William come towards him as the screen cut to black.
It was not revealed whether the dog or William had been killed.
This comes after Betsy the cat was killed by Rose in the first episode of the series.
Angry viewers took to Twitter after watching the shocking ending.
One viewer asked: "Did Ben just kill the dog??? What is wrong with these people ! First Betsy now the dog ?"
"Please tell me I didn’t watch that every night for a dog to be killed," added another.
A third agreed: "WHY DID HE HAVE TO KILL THE DOG!! Fuming is an understatement"
"Absolutely NO need for the dog to be stabbed at the end there. Ruined it," said a fourth.
Lots of viewers praised the shock ending and the four-part series as a whole.
One fan said: "What an awesome part @katherine_kelly played in #cheat best drama I’ve seen in a long time. Well done @ITV"
"What a superb cast and drama. Everyone involved was brilliant right up until the end," another added.
A third said: "#cheat was a fine piece of writing wonderfully acted and I loved it from start to finish . So in awe of Molly Windsor who for me stole the show"
