Coronation Street filming halted after star tests positive for coronavirus

Coronation Street has been forced to halt filming after an unnamed actor tested positive for coronavirus.

The soap has reportedly temporarily shut down parts of the set to thoroughly clean areas of the building where the actor had been.

According to The Guardian, no other members of staff came within two metres of the actor, but all crew and cast have been notified, and filming as a whole was not affected.

A spokeswoman for the soap told The Sun Online: "We can confirm a member of the Coronation Street team has tested positive for coronavirus.

"The protocols we have in place for such an eventuality have been implemented and the individual is now self isolating at home.

"Although we do not believe anyone has been within 2m of the individual, as a precaution, the production team who were working with the individual have been notified.

"In keeping with health and safety guidance, we have also undertaken an intensive clean of touch points in the cohort area where the individual was working and areas of the building they visited.

"We believe the situation has been contained and filming continued on Monday."

The publication also claims that due to the measures filming was only disrupted last week, and production returned back to normal by Monday.

Fans know that the stars have been following strict social distancing guidelines on set since filming started back up again.

The soap has only just returned to airing six episodes a week after cutting back to three amid the pandemic, as the social distancing guidelines forced a re-think for a number of storylines.
