Corrie's Mary Taylor develops crush on Ben Shephard in bizarre new story

Coronation Street’s Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) has never been the luckiest in love – but she’s finally met the man of her dreams in Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shepard.

It was revealed on today’s GMB that Ben will be taking centre stage in a bizarre new storyline that will see Mary fall head over heels for the beloved host.

Ben looked stunned in a first look clip of next week’s Friday episode, that sees Mary revealing she has a blanket covered in his face that she uses to cuddle up to him.

In a chat with a downbeat Sean (Antony Cotton), she offers up her beloved blanket, showing off the face of her true love in the process.

Thankfully, the pair were able to connect – kind of – with Patti video calling GMB to speak to a delighted (if somewhat taken aback) Ben.

A blushing Ben said: ‘I’m very flattered as well, that somebody as discerning as Mary would feel like I can offer some sort of solace in these times of need and such uncertainty.’

‘It makes perfect sense, don’t you think? I mean in Mary’s world being embraced by Ben is just her idea of heaven,’ Patti responded.

‘So, she’s put two and two together and come up with 10, and I think it’s a brilliant idea.

‘She could get a chain going of Ben products. But anyway the blanket is a beginning.’

‘Honestly I’m a bit lost for words. It’s really lovely to be involved in an actual storyline on Coronation Street,’ Ben told her, causing Patti to suggest the ‘Ben blankie’ will become more involved with her story in the upcoming weeks as well.

‘It is something that I’m still reeling from!,’ he added. ‘How did you decide that that it, they decided that it was going to be made?’

When Kate Garraway started grilling him for a potential cameo, Ben proudly responded: ‘I would be there in a shot. Honestly, it’s one of those things, it seems quite surreal.’

Is Mary’s bout of bad luck about to get a turnaround?

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
