Coronation Street’s Sally Carman has addressed whether soap bosses could ever create a romance for her character Abi Franklin and Tim Metcalfe, who is her partner in real-life.
The actress joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on today’s This Morning where she was asked whether producers would put the couple together to overcome coronavirus filming regulations.
However, if Abi and Tim were to become a thing, it would involve breaking Tim up from Sally Metcalfe – and that could spell drama.
‘I was wondering whether the guys at Corrie will be thinking “this could help with our Covid problems of teaming up two people and getting snogging on-screen”,’ Holly said.
‘That would have to mess up Sally [Metcalfe]… that wouldn’t work?’
‘Abi would never put foot wrong when it came to Sal,’ Sally replied. ‘She’s like her mother, her sister, her daughter, her best friend all wrapped into one.
‘There’s just no way. She couldn’t do that… she wouldn’t do that.’
Sally and Tim announced in March that they had got engaged after going into lockdown together.
The pair were first connected back in 2018, but their characters rarely share any screen time.
Sally has previously told Metro.co.uk that she’s glad her storylines are separate from Joe’s.
‘I would hate to be in the middle of Tim and Sal,’ she said. ‘Also we don’t want to work together, we see enough of each other at home!’
