It’s rare that you’ll find a house for sale and you’d be ready to move in with no decoration required.
But this particular home has a design feature that’s a little less about personal style and more about the fact it might stop you from sleeping at night.
The Australian property in Blackwood, Southeast Adelaide, was put on the market recently, but has been getting all the wrong kinds of attention due to a strange feature.
On the online listing, potential buyers noticed that, in one of the home’s three large bedrooms, a little girl is painted onto wallpaper on a door.
The lifelike image of the girl holding her teddy bear and standing in the door has perplexed people so much that the estate agent has even received multiple emails about it.
Peter Jeffrey, of Harcourts Packham, said to realestate.com.au: ‘It’s actually a painting on wallpaper. It’s a solid, bolted shut, used-to-be sliding door.’
‘There were eight girls brought up in that house and one of the daughters … put that there many years ago.
‘It’s certainly getting a lot of attention.’
There’s no explanation as to why the door is bolted shut, which only adds to the creepy nature of the picture.
The previous owners lived in the house for 57 years, and have now moved into a retirement home.
It’ll go to auction at the end of this month without a guide price, but agents expect it’ll be sold for a price reflective of the land value.
Peter added: ‘For me it’s something you’d probably bowl over.’
Whether you demolish and start again as recommended, or simply paint over the door of horror movie legend, please check you’re not doing anything on an ancient burial ground.
And get that door unbolted with some holy water.
