The former Love Island hunk, who is in the final of this year’s ITV skating series, has revealed he is in talks for a music career.
Wes, who packed in his day job as a nuclear systems design engineer to take part in the reality show, says fellow contestant and former Westlife singer Brian McFadden is now taking him under his wing.
In an exclusive interview ahead of Sunday’s final, he told me: “I’ve caught the performance bug now. When you finish a routine, you get that overwhelming feeling.
“Performing is so enjoyable and I see why everyone loves it now. I sang on Love Island but producers never showed it because of copyright reasons. We were singing all the time.
“I’ve been speaking to Brian’s label and they had a meeting with me but for now just ice skating. It would be R&B and pop.”
And if his music career goes more Chris and Kem than Robson & Jerome, at least he will have more work on telly to fall back on. Staffordshire-born Wes says he has a series of meetings with TV execs once DOI finishes this Sunday.
He added: “I’ve got some development meetings after this show which are really exciting. It’s not reality based, it’s more about me doing something a bit more serious as well as keeping in touch with my jokey, happy, silly side.
“There could be elements of my engineering within it — but I’m not giving away the format. It’s a really exciting one, I’m looking forward to getting involved and you seeing it.”
As long as I don’t have to go to a freezing airfield in the middle of nowhere to watch it, like with Dancing On Ice, then I’m all ears.
Jordan: Lay off GC Jase
DANCING On Ice’s Mr Nasty, Jason Gardiner, lived up to his nickname yesterday – calling ex-contestant Gemma Collins a “refrigerator” live on This Morning.
Now finalist James Jordan has defended the GC against judge Jason, saying: “I think you can still get your point across in a strong way without personally attacking someone.”
Even so, former Strictly pro James admitted he thinks Jason is living up to the pantomime villain stereotype.
He said: “Yes, it’s a competition but it’s an entertainment show. And again if what he’s saying is getting a reaction from the audience then you know at the end of the day it’s a bit of panto up there.
“I don’t take anything he says personally myself, but not everyone’s like me – I’ve got thick skin. He could basically say whatever he wanted to me, I’d find it funny.”
Fellow Dancing On Ice celeb Wes Nelson also finds Jason’s cutting critiques can be controversial, saying: “He speaks his mind, just sometimes in a blunt way.
“It’s just I think the way he gives his message can sometimes be a bit choice, but he’s right in what he says for the most part.”
They’ll be hoping Jason has thawed out a little before Sunday’s final.
JAMES Jordan has quite an injury list from his time on the ice show. He said: “I’ve got a torn rotator cuff (a shoulder injury), tennis elbow, arthritis in both my hips, my knees have gone, I’ve got lower back pain and my hernia.” Ouch.
Skate to shed the weight
DANCING On Ice seems to have transformed into The Biggest Loser this year. After two months of hardcore training, James Jordan and Wes Nelson have lost a whole sack of spud between them over the course of the series.
James said: “I lost 15 kilos, but that was from when the moment I knew I was going to do the show. Every night at the hotel I was having pepperoni and jalapeno pizzas and I’ve just kept burning it off. It’s hard to keep the weight on.”
Wes also bemoaned losing his muscular physique from his days in the Love Island villa. He said: “I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass. I’ve not been able to go to the gym so I think I’ve probably lost about 10kg.”
Yet Saara Aalto seems to think she’s gained weight, as well as her dream Kim Kardashian rear. She quipped: “I think just my bum is getting bigger and bigger every time – so maybe I’ve put on more. It just shows I can get it without a surgical operation. It’s possible, if you put in hard work you can get that bum you want. Just skate around for 12 hours a day.”
Hmm. I still don’t think the Towie cast’s surgeons will be losing business any time soon.
SAARA Aalto – the 2016 X Factor runner-up – has revealed her dream judging panel: “I’d have Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger – she’s so much fun. And then Lady Gaga, that would be cool, and Adam Lambert.”
JESSIE and Marlon are preparing for their honeymoon in Emmerdale, Paddy decides it’s time he got some answers, and Tracy accepts Ellis’ invitation.
In Coronation Street, it is Seb’s 18th birthday and he believes a seductive message from Sarah is aimed at him – but he ends up getting an even bigger surprise.
Yasmeen is uncomfortable when Geoff arrives with his overnight bag, and Rana feels left out when Lolly suggests to Kate they should have a night on the town.
It’s time for the community to rally round Toadie as he comes to terms with his loss in Neighbours, while Shane is concerned about the secret Sonya told him about Andrea.
WHAT? Leaving Neverland: Michael Jackson And Me, Channel 4, 9pm.
WHY? Troubling accounts of James Safechuck and Wade Robson, who claim the star sexually abused them as children.
