EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt credits co-star for secret lockdown weight loss

Adam Woodyatt has revealed how he shed the pounds during the lockdown period, which saw him lose several stone.

The actor who plays Ian Beale on BBC's EastEnders took up cycling while the soap went off the air during the height of the coronavirus lockdown period.

Adam, 52, left viewers gasping for air when EastEnders returned and he showcased his slimmer frame.

Now, the soap legend has revealed that co-star and friend Jake Wood, 48, helped him kick-start his recent transformation.

Adam admitted that taking up cycling and getting in the saddle every day helped him with his staggering weight loss and it was Jake who encouraged him.

Speaking on his Instagram Stories, Woodyatt said that he has never felt in better shape after taking up daily exercise.

"Like my mate, Mr Wood says, 'you got to get out there. You got to do it.' He goes running and I go cycling," he said.

In the clip, Adam was dressed head to toe in cycling wear, even making sure he stood out by wearing hi-viz clothing.

The actor recently opened up about his weight, admitting that he had been targetted by cruel social media trolls and even comments in person which left him feeling uneasy.

Speaking about his ordeal with trolls, he said: "One of the best examples of somebody being rude is when we were at the BBC Good Food show.

"This woman looks at me and says, 'You’re fatter than you are on telly'."

His dramatic transformation comes after Adam split from wife Beverley, who he married in 1998.

A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed the news, saying: "Beverley and Adam separated in August 2019 and we ask that the family’s privacy is respected."

While a source close to the ex-lovers told The Sun : "Beverley was naturally very upset, as anybody would be in the circumstances, but these things happen and it’s a straightforward separation."
