I’M A Celebrity’s Shane Richie has teased his EastEnders character Alfie Moon will send estranged wife Kat Slater a letter.
The actor and entertainer is currently settling into his new home in the ruins of Welsh Gwrych Castle on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Speaking ahead of his stint on the ITV show, Shane, 56, revealed he would love to return to Walford if he can.
The actor’s character Alfie appeared to have faked his own death in January 2019 after he scammed £50k from Phil Mitchell then disappeared.
But it seems the door is still very much open for Shane to return should the right storyline open up.
The actor revealed to The Mirror: “I would love to go back. I think under the present climate, there are still restrictions at EastEnders, but I speak to Jessie [Wallace] a lot and I speak to Adam [Woodyatt].
“They were saying how tough it is at the moment, but I think that is the same for Corrie and Emmerdale. It is the same as making game shows or even doing this show.”
Shane then divulged Alfie is still alive and on the run in Spain – still owing serious cash to Walford’s resident hard man Phil Mitchell.
He went on: “What is interesting is Jessie said the other week they got a letter from him, so they still talk about him.
“Who knows what will happen next year. It would be lovely. I love the show and I have got such great memories of it.”
I’m a Celebrity returned last night, much to the delight of viewers after months of speculation on its future due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Shane and his campmate Jordan North were both voted by the public to take on the first I’m A Celebrity bushtucker trial.
The EastEnders actor and the Radio One DJ will take on the Viper Vault.
They will be sealed in coffins full of slithering snakes with a series of safes to crack to win stars for the camp.
This year's cohort of stars were flown into the filming location in North Wales in individual helicopters as they prepared to take on their first challenge.
The famous faces taking part include Sir Mo Farah, Shane Richie, Vernon Kay, Beverley Callard and Victoria Derbyshire.
Opening the episode, presenter Declan Donnelly said: "Forget everything you know and get ready for three weeks of chaos in the castle."
The first five celebrities to meet – Shane Richie, Sir Mo, Callard, AJ Pritchard and Hollie Arnold – were tasked with going to find the five other famous faces to help them retrieve some backpacks.
The second five-strong group of celebrities – Vernon Kay, Jessica Plummer, Giovanna Fletcher, Jordan North and Victoria Derbyshire – were tasked with retrieving rucksacks suspended on a cliff face with the help of the other five famous faces.
North was sick as the group prepared to take on the challenge.
"This is the closest I have ever been to a cliff edge," he added as he geared himself up to complete the challenge.
He managed to retrieve a bag for Sir Mo, who directed him to a rucksack.
"When you are at the top and you are scared of heights, it is petrifying," he said. "But Mo looked after me."
Viewers can watch new episodes of EastEnders Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
