Emmerdale has recast the role of Ellis Champman after the previous actor Asan N’Jie was sacked from the soap following an altercation with Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards. Asan was forced to leave the role immediately but the scenes he had filmed with Ellis, which saw him getting to work on his new business and growing close to Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) were aired.
His exit was then explained as him leaving to stay with mum Jessie in Dubai, following her split from Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and subsequent exit. A number of scenes between characters explained his departure and fans assumed that he wouldn’t be seen again.
However the character will soon be back as actor Aaron Anthony has taken over the role and started filming with the soap. While an arrival date hasn’t been confirmed for him in the role of Ellis, the character will return to the village as tensions rise between his dad Al (Michael Wildman) and brother Billy (Jay Kontzle).
As for which side of the fight Ellis will find himself on – and whether he might pick up where he left off with Belle – that all remains to be seen.
Speaking about joining the soap, Delicious and Behind Her Eyes actor Aaron said: ‘Emmerdale is a cracking show with a brilliant cast that I’m over the moon to now be a part of. I know Ellis is a well loved character and I’m looking forward to continuing his journey and all that’s in store for him.’
Asan was dismissed from the soap after a row with Jamie got out of hand at the awards show after party and he was seen threatening to stab the actor. He promptly apologised for his behaviour and was later confirmed to have been written out after meetings with bosses.
Aaron will make his debut as Ellis this December.
