Emmerdale star Louisa Clein has defended the “important” Maya Stepney and Jacob Gallagher scenes.
15-year-old Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) is taking centre stage in the soap at the moment as his dark new storyline with Maya continues.
Jacob has developed romantic feelings for Maya – his History teacher and the girlfriend of his stepdad David.

After weeks of subtly encouraging Jacob, Maya eventually crossed another line by kissing him – which is against the law given his age, plus the fact that he’s her pupil.
Emmerdale‘s cast and production team have been working alongside Barnardo’s on this storyline, and have also met with young survivors of sexual abuse.
In response to the scenes, and following a meeting with Barnardo’s, Louisa has tweeted: “This was an essential and extraordinary meeting.
“It is such an important story to tell, however uncomfortable the viewing may be. If it can help one person, then our job is done. There are many places to turn to if you have been affected by this storyline. #bernados #emmerdale.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
