Former EastEnders star Lorna Fitzgerald is looking forward to her on-screen dad Jake Wood’s exit from the soap after 15 years of playing Max Branning.
Lorna, who starred as Abi Branning until 2018, is ‘excited’ about the storyline that will see lothario Max leave Albert Square.
During an interview for her new film The Loss Adjuster, she told Metro.co.uk that she tries to watch the BBC soap when she can and praised the recent domestic abuse storyline that saw Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) cause the death of his wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer).
‘I’ve seen the big storylines that I’ve tuned in for like as and when I can, I’ve watched a lot of the domestic abuse storyline,’ she said.
‘My family will always watch it; always have, always will. So they keep me up to date and they were like, “gotta watch this storyline”.’
The actress continued: ‘I’m really excited to see Jake’s departure as well as Max because I’m just intrigued like, what’s gonna happen?’
She confessed she missed having ‘the edge’ that working on the soap gave her in terms of knowing the next big storyline, but she enjoys being a viewer.
‘It’s quite nice being a fan and not knowing what’s gonna happen,’ Lorna said.
‘You find out in real time with everyone else.’
Jake recently gave a timeline of when EastEnders viewers can expect to see Max bow out.
‘I am a person that always looks forwards, always asks myself what there is to achieve next,’ he said in a social media post.
‘With only 3 weeks left of filming EastEnders these thoughts are at the forefront of my mind.’
He added: ‘I’m excited for new challenges, new opportunities and for sharing this next chapter with u guys.’
Max’s exit storyline is still under wraps but he is set to share a kiss with married Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) as the pair became close over lockdown.
However Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is set to catch them in the act.
