Mel Sykes, 50, breaks silence on five-day fling with Venice gondolier, 23, saying she's ‘too happy to care’

MELANIE Sykes, 50, breaks her silence on her five-day fling with a Venice gondolier, 23, saying she's "too happy to care".

The presenter jetted off to Venice with a friend but ended up falling for gondolier Riccardo Simionato.

Photos showed Melanie with her arm around Riccardo while they kissed in the street.

They were later seen laughing and hugging in Campo San Toma Square in pictures obtained by the Mail Online.

However, the presenter said she was "too happy to care" about her romance being shown to the world.

Writing on Instagram, she said: "Morning strumpets. I knew I was being stalked on my holiday but I managed to ignore it, partly because it's just what happens but mostly because I was experiencing so much joy, it was difficult to actually care.

"May you also recognise, appreciate and take those happy moments in this crazy world. love Melanie x #livethatlife"

Riccardo refused to spill the details of his holiday fling with Melanie when asked.

"I don't remember. I meet a lot of people," he told the Mail on Sunday.

When asked about the 27-year age gap, he added: "Beauty is relative. Maybe what in your eyes is beautiful, isn't to me.

"Every person is different, nationality doesn't matter. True, no?"

Melanie was previously married to actor Daniel Caltagirone – from 2001 until their divorce in 2009 – and shares kids Roman, 18, and Valentino, 16, with him.

She also married Jack Cockings in 2013 but they split after less than a year of marriage.
