Piers Morgan tells son Spencer to 'get a grip' as they clash over lockdown – telling him to be like wartime great-gran

PIERS Morgan furiously told his son Spencer to "get a grip" after they clashed over lockdown again.

The 55-year-old star did not hide his outrage at 27-year-old Spencer's comments after the government announced London will be moving into Tier 2 of lockdown.

Spencer had moaned on his Twitter account: "Today we bid farewell to pretty much every aspect of life that makes it worth living.

"A decision to prolong the pain and suffering being caused by this 99.5% survival rate, above life expectancy mortality rate virus for many many years.

"Enjoy the ‘new normal’, cos I won’t."

He later posed at at Chelsea's swanky Bluebird restaurant, writing: "My twenties just finished two months after turning 27. What a life."

But Piers was not afraid to publicly call out his son for the reaction, retweeting Spencer's original message and adding: "Your great-grandmother spent 5yrs of her 20s enduring World War 2 & then enjoyed another 70 more years of fun-packed life afterwards.

"You’ve done 5 months of mild inconvenience by comparison ….. get a grip."

Spencer hit back: "Similar attacks on freedom. Understand now how she felt then."

From midnight tonight, London and Essex are among the areas that will be joining places such as Manchester in Tier 2 of lockdown – banning any households from mixing indoors.

There is also speculation that parts of the North of England will be upgraded to Tier 3, which means they won't be able to leave their local area.

This is far from the first time that Piers and Spencer duo have locked horns over the ongoing pandemic.

However, they have previously insisted that the bickering is just healthy debate between a father and son, with Piers telling one critic: "I’ve always encouraged my children to be their own people & speak their own minds…"

Spencer added: "Only idiots can’t have a civilised debate".

The GMB presenter has been one of the most outspoken stars on coronavirus, and the government's handling of it.

In August, he fumed: "I think it might be easier if all those who've deluded themselves into thinking the pandemic is 'over' to unfollow me.

"There are plenty of T-list celebs & ex-sportsmen who agree with you – so follow them & read what you want to hear, then you won't get so angry all the time."

To which Spencer replied: "Goodbye dad".

Before that, Piers called out Spencer for saying coronavirus poses no threat to Premier League footballers, tweeting: "Young healthy people need to stop acting like the virus is irrelevant because it doesn’t kill them."

Spencer hit back at the time: "And older / vulnerable people need to accept that life isn’t fair and that in this instance it is their responsibility to be smart and shield themselves as much as possible."

Spencer is Piers' oldest son with ex Marion Shalloe, who he also shares 23-year-old Stanley and 19-year-old Bertie with.

The star is also dad to eight-year-old Elise with wife Celia Walden.
