Reunion of Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge excites His Dark Materials fans

Warning: spoilers ahead for season 2 of His Dark Materials.

In the latest episode of His Dark Materials season 2, aeronaut Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) finally locates the man he has been searching for – Stanislaus Grumman aka Jopari aka John Parry (Andrew Scott) – in a bid to help Lyra Silvertongue (Dafne Keen).

Viewers of the show, which is a television adaptation of Philip Pullman’s book trilogy of the same name, were delighted to see the Hamilton and Sherlock stars interact in their highly-anticipated meeting.

However, the episode also saw another exciting meeting take place – the reunion of Andrew with his Fleabag co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Phoebe stars in the fantasy series as Andrew’s daemon Sayan Kötör, a physical representation of his soul in the form of an osprey.

Many fans of Fleabag and His Dark Materials were absolutely delighted to hear the actor’s voice in the new episode, as she greeted Lee and his hare daemon Hester.

Some also pointed out the irony of Phoebe playing Andrew’s daemon, given the pair’s charged relationship in the second season of Fleabag.

‘Phoebe Waller Bridge (Fleabag) being the voice of Stanislaus Grumman’s (Hot Priest) daemon is everything,’ one person tweeted.

‘Good evening only to the person who decided that Andrew Scott’s daemon would be voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge,’ someone else said.

One Twitter user said it was a ‘genius’ decision to cast Phoebe as Andrew’s daemon.

‘Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Andrew Scott’s daemon. My urge to immediately rewatch @fleabag is THROUGH THE ROOF,’ another added.

After Lin-Manuel and Andrew’s characters are introduced to one another, they set out on a quest to find the bearer of the Subtle Knife, a powerful object which allows the person who wields it to cut windows into other worlds.

Unbeknownst to them, Will Parry (Amir Wilson), the son of John Parry, has become the new bearer of the knife after engaging in a fight with Tullio (Lewis MacDougall) in the Torre degli Angel.

Only time will tell if Will and Lyra encounter Lee and John on their travels between different worlds.

His Dark Materials airs on Sunday evenings at 8.10pm on BBC One.
