Shock as BBC ‘goes off air’ as host calls for ‘someone to put the plug back in’

BBC Breakfast went off air today as viewers experienced a black screen.

Host Dan Walker took to Twitter to express his confusion as he jokingly called for someone to "put the plug back in".

He tweeted: "Can you see us on BBC1? Have we gone somewhere? Can someone put the plug back in?"

Of course, Piers Morgan stuck the boot in as he retorted: "Cut off for being too boring?"

But Dan responded back: "Our black screen still had double your audience #BBCbreakfast."

Later, the reason for the blackout emerged as Dan revealed it had been due to their flux capacitor.

He wrote: "We’re back. The flux capacitor is working again #BBCbreakfast."

Piers didn’t leave their bickering on Twitter and said gleefully on Good Morning Britain: "Our rivals at BBC breakfast have had the plug pulled on them. They’re off air."

"I can’t imagine who could have pulled the plug on them," Susanna joked.

Piers continued with a laugh: "They went off air but it took a long time for anyone to realise. Anyway if you’ve been watching the BBC and you’re bored – or maybe you’re finding the blank screen more interesting than their normal fare, come over here."

"We’re like a double espresso shot in comparison," Susanna quipped.
