Denise Fox (Diane Parish) is set to be at the centre of a huge EastEnders storyline where the soap returns to screens next month.
Denise has long been a fan-favourite character — not to mention one of the soap’s most compelling — and while she did feature somewhat frequently in the months prior to the hiatus, it’s been quite some time since she had a story of her very own.
That’s all set to change upon the serial drama’s return, and Executive Producer Jon Sen is incredibly excited about what’s in store for the character.
Confirming that the upcoming story is tied to the arrival of Mica Paris’ character Ellie Nixon, Jon told Metro.co.uk: ‘We have got a great story for Denise. The Mica Paris announcement went out last week, and we all know she is coming to the Square, and that’s part of an on-going Denise story.
‘It really pushes Denise to the front of the show. Those Trueman stories are amazing. Mica forms part of that story with Denise.
‘Anybody who knows anything about her history will probably know where we’re going with that. It’s great when the past comes to haunt you.’
Actress Diane Parish previously teased during an episode of Secrets From The Square (July 20) that there will be challenges ahead for Denise.
‘I don’t know a great deal,’ she said, ‘but I do know that some dark things from her past are going to resurface.’
EastEnders returns Monday, September 7 at 8:05pm on BBC One.
