Stuart Highway’s (Ricky Champ) villainous side is brought to the forefront once more in EastEnders, as he unleashes his frustrations on Keegan Butcher-Baker (Zack Morris) when Rainie Cross (Tanya Franks) is injured.
It’s been something of a huge week for Rainie and Stuart, as they were in dire need of a beautician after their current one walked out. However, Rainie soon came to realise that Tiffany (Maisie Smith) is perfect for the job.
Mind you, their happiness is short-lived, as Rainie steps out into the road in tonight’s episode (November 5) as Keegan passes by, and a collision ensues. Yes, Keegan hits her — knocking her into the gutter. Before long, the truth comes out, as she admits she’s pregnant.
Speaking about Stuart’s reaction to Rainie’s injury, actor Ricky Champ — who portrays the character — said: ‘Stuart has come pretty much full 180 from where he was last year and the reason for that is Rainie.
‘Stuart’s anger is still there; to fully access it you have to do something bad to the woman he loves.
‘His character has developed a huge amount, he has come on leaps and bounds and that is because of all of these storylines that have happened to him, and has shaped him. He has slayed a lot of demons, en route to being where he is, and has come a long way.
‘A few still remain, which makes it interesting. He is still not fully back to being friends with Mick, so much has happened, I don’t think that it could really go back to being completely trustworthy again, but you never know.’
Stuart’s relationship with Rainie has proven instrumental in helping him to grow as a person.
‘There are lots of reasons [why Stuart loves Rainie]’ said Ricky, ‘One of them is that they have a similar history, and a similar damaged past, they have met on this journey together and come out of it.
‘Their relationship grew. They started being really horrible to each other on their journey and actually realised they had a lot in common, and that they were really good for each other. There are lots of reasons, but the main one is that their paths crossed at the right time in their lives.
‘Flashes of their old selves came back out, that’s why it makes them both interesting to watch, There was a flash of the monster in Stuart for Keegan, so you have to say you get whiplash with the pair of them, one minute they’re lovely, one minute they’re not.’
‘ Maybe they are a little bit too unpredictable to be good parents at the moment.’
EastEnders continues Thursday November 5 at 7:35pm on BBC One.
