Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) came to Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) defence in EastEnders tonight (November 19), as she gave him an alibi for the time of the robbery in Shoreditch.
DI Steve Thompson (Phillip Wright) is desperate to put Phil behind bars, and when he got wind of the robbery — after Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) had tipped off the police — he thought all of his Christmases had come at once.
What’s more, he even spotted Phil speeding away from the scene of the crime!
All he had to do was arrest him, right? Then he’d finally have what he wanted?
Well, not exactly.
The bent copper headed to the Queen Vic to confront Phil, and before long, he decided to arrest him.
However, before he could read him his rights, Sharon — who had watched the showdown ensue from behind the bar — interfered.
She told Thompson that Phil had been in the pub babysitting since 3pm, and therefore, he simply couldn’t have taken part in the robbery.
Thompson was fuming — his plans once again had been scuppered!
Phil was taken aback by Sharon’s actions, but she ultimately had an ulterior motive, as she used the fact that she’d provided him with an alibi in order to smooth things over regarding the divorce proceedings.
