The Chase turns awkward as Mark Labbett clashes with contestant over money offer

The Chase returned to our screens on Thursday for the latest instalment of the ITV quiz show.

Television presenter Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the show today.

The cheeky host was eager to see the team of hopefuls get through to the final with some money in-hand.

Mark "The Beast" Labbett was in the hot seat tonight trying to prevent the contestants from going home with the cash prize.

Eddie, Helen, Tom and Elizabeth all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Beast in an intense round of general knowledge questions.

Things turned awkward at the top of the show when contestant number one Eddie and The Beast locked horns over money.

Eddie answered five questions correctly during the cash builder round, earning a sound £5,000.

When it came to the head-to-head round, Mark gave Eddie the chance to increase his fund by offering a high offer of £22,000.

After a quick discussion with his teammates, Eddie decided to play it safe and kept his £5,000.

Eddie said: "I thought the high offer would have been at least £30,000."

The Beast replied: "You should have done better then."

The pair played the game and it didn't take long for Mark to catch Eddie, leaving him to go home empty-handed and unable to play the final chase.

Viewers at home were gutted that Eddie failed to make it home and dry.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Should have got through Eddie."

Another added: "Such a shame I liked Eddie."

A third said: "I liked Eddie. Gutted for him. The Beast is doing well on the show today."

Helen was up next and also won £5,000 in her cash builder round.

Mark couldn't help but make a dig at Eddie when making an offer with Helen.

The Beast joked: "Eddie wanted it but you can have it, the high offer Is £30,000."

Helen had to chose to play for £1,000, £5,000 or £30,000 and she decided to keep the amount she raised in her cash builder round.

Despite a confident start, Helen failed to make it through and was also caught by The Beast during her head-to-head round.

The Beast was on top form today answering every single question correctly., leaving the team to go home empty-handed.
