HOSPITAL staff have been forced to eat lunch outside in freezing conditions due to social distancing measures.
Bosses at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey removed all the tables and chairs from the canteen and break rooms used by NHS workers to grab a bite to eat – sparking outrage among staff.
The Covid-related measure means scores of staff such as nurses and porters are having to stand outside in the freezing cold to eat their sandwiches.
A source said: "We understand social distancing measures have to be enforced, but it's a kick in the teeth to the hard working medical staff to have to eat outside in the increasingly cold weather."
A spokesman for Frimley Health NHS Trust said: "Our priority is to keep staff, patients and the public safe so we have changed the seating arrangements in our restaurants and break rooms to maintain social distancing rules.
"We have an additional staff-only restaurant in our postgraduate education centre and are urgently looking at extra rest areas so all staff can continue to take their meal breaks in comfort and safety."
