Mike Pompeo said on Saturday that the State Department sent an “initial response” letter following a subpoena for documents in the House impeachment inquiry.
“We’ll obviously do all the things we’re required to do by law,” the secretary of state told reporters in Athens, Greece.
But behind the scenes, Democrats griped that he failed to meet Friday’s deadline to cough up the material it demanded, according to CNN.
Pompeo also blasted the impeachment probe as a partisan effort. “There’s clearly politics involved in this,” he said.
Two ambassadors involved in the Trump administration’s Ukraine dealings will testify before the committee in the coming days.
