Who’s on Question Time tonight? Here are the guests on tonight’s show – The Sun

THIS week's episode of the BBC's flagship political debate programme will be broadcast from Brighton.

Here is our rundown of the guests who will be appearing on the Question Time panel.

Who's on Question Time tonight?

James Cleverly

James Cleverly, 49, is the member of parliament for the Essex constituency of Braintree and incumbent chairman of the Conservative Party.

He has previously served as deputy chairman and as parliamentary under-secretary for Exiting the European Union.

He first became an MP at the 2015 election, having served since 2007 as a member of the London Assembly.

Before becoming an MP, he worked in magazine and online publishing, and since 1991 has also served in the Territorial Army, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Cleverly is a long-time backer of Brexit, though has previously acknowledged that it could be a difficult process.

"I believe the case for Brexit is still valid, and I have not wavered in that belief", he said.

"But I have never been blind to the complexities of the process and I have always been uncomfortable with those who offer artificially simple solutions."

Asked in 2015 who should succeed David Cameron as leader of the Conservatives, he replied: "Me."

He briefly joined the race to replace Theresa May earlier this year, but later withdrew due to a lack of support.

Clive Lewis

Clive Lewis, 48, is the Labour member of parliament for the Norfolk constituency of Norwich South and shadow minister for sustainable economics.

He was first elected as an MP at the 2015 election, declaring in his victory speech that New Labour was "dead and buried".

He has previously served as shadow defence secretary and shadow business secretary.

Lewis was an early backer of the candidacy of Jeremy Corbyn for Labour leader, though in 2016 was removed from his post as shadow defence secretary after a row over the party's policy on Trident renewal.

Prior to entering parliament, Lewis worked as a broadcast journalist in Nottingham, Norwich and Coventry, becoming the main reporter on the BBC's Politics Show East.

He later trained at the Sandhurst Military Academy and went on to serve a three-month tour in Afghanistan in 2009.

He also supports the abolition of tuition fees and the nationalisation of public services like water, energy, and public transport.

Alex Phillips

Alex Phillips, 35, is a Brexit Party member of the European parliament in the South West.

She was elected at the 2019 European election, having been the party's second candidate in the constituency behind Nigel Farage.

She previously served as head of media for the United Kingdom Independence Party, though left the part in September 2016, around the same time as Farage.

She said she had left UKIP because of infighting, though stayed on as a media adviser to UKIP MEP Nathan Gill.

She then joined the Conservative Party, citing support for the stances of then-prime minister Theresa May on issues like Brexit, grammar schools, and fracking.

In July, she admitted working for SCL Group, the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, the British consulting firm that closed in 2018 after being found to have harvested the personal data of millions of Facebook users without their consent for use in political advertising.

She had previously denied working for the company.

In August, she was selected to run as the Brexit Party's candidate in the Hampshire constituency of Southampton Itchen, one of the seats the party later announced it would not contest because it did not want to draw votes from the Conservatives.

She later said she would not vote in the 2019 general election because she had been "disenfranchised" by her party.

Liz Saville Roberts

Liz Saville Roberts, 54, is the Plaid Cymru member of parliament for the constituency of Dwyfor Meirionnydd in north west Wales.

She was first elected at the 2015 election, and is currently her party's leader in the House of Commons.

Prior to becoming an MP, she worked in Welsh-medium further education.

From 2004 she also served as a member of Gynedd Council, though stood down after her election to parliament.

Roberts is an opponent of Brexit, and in March was one of 85 MPs to vote for a second referendum on Britain's EU membership.

She is a member of the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill, and has backed a US-style rape shield law that would prevent the cross-examination of rape victims about their sexual history in court.

In October 2018, she is believed to have become the first person to speak Irish in the Commons since February 1901, doing so while calling on the government to introduce an act to grant the language equal status in Northern Ireland, similar to that of the Welsh language in Wales.

Chris Boardman

Chris Boardman is a British former racing cyclist and founder of bike manufacturers Boardman Bikes.

He won an individual pursuit gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, broke the world record for the longest distance cycled in an hour three times, and won three stages of the Tour de France.

In 1992, he was award an MBE for services to cycling.

He has latterly been involved in campaigns to reduce cycling deaths and accidents and for the use of cycling to reduce obesity-related disease.
