Four Skincare Secrets America Ferrera, 36, Swears By

You may have been a fan of America Ferrera from her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants days or even Ugly Betty (which, absolutely made me to work at a magazine in 7th grade, btw). More recently, she’s graced the silver screen in Superstore, written a book about her Latinx heritage, American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures, and co-founded a nonprofit, Harness.

The actress, author, activist, entrepreneur, and mother, 36, seems to be always working on a new project, and because of her busy schedule, is a fan of simple, quick skincare hacks (like blotting papers to control oiliness in her skin) that keep her skin fresh and glowing.

Above all, accepting herself is her main beauty philosophy. “Trying to be perfect all the time can be draining,” she said in an interview with People. “But I’ve grown up and realized that who I am as a person doesn’t change with the outside world’s approval of my appearance. If everyone hates my dress but I like it, that’s all that matters. I’m finally learning that being not perfect is okay.”

Find out America’s top tips for caring for her skin and feeling beautiful, ahead.

Facials are a must for her.

Taking care of her skin with a facial, especially when she’s traveling and has exhausted skin, is key. “A really amazing facial is my beauty indulgence. I go to Linda Ross in Los Angeles, and she’s my savior with all the traveling and flying and lack of sleep and stress. Her facials save me,” America told Allure back in 2012.

Her makeup artist preps her skin with a $10 drugstore moisturizer.

Makeup artist Vanessa Scali, who has created red carpet looks for America, said that “For me, every look starts with the skin.” She has used a cleansing oil on America, just massaging a few drops into the skin, as well as a moisturizer with SPF, InStyle reported. It happens to be a super accessible drugstore pick: Simple Skincare Protecting Light Moisturizer SPF 15 (literally 10 bucks on Amazon). After that, she used a foundation that also had SPF packed in–because you can never have enough.

That all-over glow comes from a highlighting powder.

America’s dewy natural glow is easily accentuated with something simple over her makeup like a light, sheer highlighting powder. Makeup artist Linda Hay told Glamour that she has used Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight powder on America over sheer skin to add radiance, and topped it off with just a bit of blush.

If she’s traveling, she’s got blotting papers with her.

America has been open about having oily skin, and recently shared one of her fave travel tips for soaking up oil when she’s on the run: blotting papers.

“You know you need it when it sticks to your face,” America said in an Instagram video, laughing. She jokes about being a beauty influencer, but honestly, we’d follow any tips she’s putting out there based on her naturally radiant complexion.
