The 2021 presidential inauguration, which occurred early in the day on Jan. 21, 2021, was a momentous event that is slated to steer the United States into a new direction. While it was a beautiful day for history books that definitely brought many tears from Americans, one thing cannot be ignored: the fashion!
The women of Washington, D.C. truly pulled out all the stops when it came to their attires for the winter day. A prominent theme of the day was monochrome pea coats. The first of many classy outfits was former First Lady Michelle Obama wearing, as CNN described, “a turtleneck sweater and wide-legged bootcut pants, with a structured coat helping her strike the balance between understated elegance and power dressing.”
Along with the perfect ensemble was her equally perfect hair, forming silky, bouncy curls that was admired from both sides of the aisles. The style was curated by hairstylist Yene Dametew and she is giving away her secrets on getting the look at home (via Vogue).

The former FLOTUS has had for the same hair stylist for a few years, and for good reason. Yene Damtew achieved the classic look with only a flatiron — yes, just a flatiron.
The professional took to her Twitter, where she has over 22,000 followers, to thank her followers (old and new) for their compliments on the style.
“Again, thank you for the love & kind words today,” she posted, along with a video of how she accomplished the bouncy look. “Here’s a video to show how I achieve my signature, bouncy curls on a client at my salon.”
According to Allure, Dametew shared the specific flatiron she used which unfortunately has been discontinued, however she did mention a similar tool that can get the job done: Hot Tools Professional Wide Plate Digital Salon Flat Iron for Reduced Frizz. Time to experiment!
