BBC Breakfast’s resident weather reporter Carol Kirkwood, 59, has opened up on her worries after being traumatically knocked off her bike near Slough, Berkshire. The meteorologist has now revealed the extent of the damage that the accident, which took place in May last year, has had on her both physically and mentally.
She said: “My left knee was badly injured.
“It was cut down to the kneecap and some of my nerves were hanging out.”
Carol was unable to continue with her BBC weather role at the time due to her horror injuries.
She was forced to take three weeks off from work.
The star went on to share how the crash has impacted her confidence on the roads.
She added to PA news agency: “My confidence cycling on the road has gone to pot. I don’t do that now. I’m fearful now of cycling on the road.
“It was such a shock. I had dreams about it and I still do.
“Sometimes, I still get upset talking about it.
“It’s not on my mind all the time, but I dream about being hit,” she admitted.
Carol informed fans about her accident for the first time last year after BBC Breakfast viewers wondered why she hadn’t been on the show.
Carol explained to her 208,000 Twitter followers: “Been off following an accident.
“Got knocked off my bike by a car and got injured.

“Biggest thanks ever to the Police (Chris and Faye), the Ambulance Crew (Miranda and Stewart) who tended to me and took me to Hospital and especially Peter Foskett-Tharby at Wexham Park Hospital.”
Unfortunately for the weather presenter, she has found herself in the wars again recently after undergoing a procedure.
Carol admitted to having dental work after she suffered a broken tooth.
Taking to the micro-blogging site, Carol penned: “Just back from seeing Mark my lovely Dentist (broke my tooth a few weeks ago on an apple).
“Now feel like I have done two rounds with Frank Bruno as my mouth feels swollen (although TBF it doesn’t look it).
“Hope you are having a fab afternoon xxx.”
The BBC weather star was inundated with support after speaking out on her painful issue.
One wrote: “Poor you, easy to do this. You’ll soon feel much better, and be smiling beautifully for us.”
Another commented: “Ooh Carol – hope your tooth is kind to you tonight!”
