Emmerdale: Natalie J Robb details Jonny McPherson relationship
Jonny McPherson, who plays Dr Liam Cavanagh on Emmerdale, admitted that up until recently the on-screen star had a side hustle to supplement his income from acting.
The 41-year-old said “acting is a precarious profession” and it can be difficult to get on the property ladder if you are only working for half of the year.
The soap star revealed he had a second gig as an Airbnb host of a canal boat after spending several years living on the vessel.
Jonny bought himself a new flat in Leeds and has since sold his canal boat as he discards his Airbnb hosting gig.
Addressing the move, he told OK! magazine: “It can be very difficult to get a mortgage if you are only working for six months of the year. So, when you get two years of working on something like Emmerdale, it allows you to get a mortgage finally. I’ve got a flat now in Leeds and I’ve sold my boat.”
He continued: “I did put it on Airbnb for 18 months before I sold it, and it really took off. After a while, though, it began to get more difficult to manage.
“I was having to check in guests at 10pm on a Friday evening on top of my full-time role in Emmerdale and I decided to sell.”
Jonny recalled a few people getting “giddy” once they realised they were on Dr Liam’s boat but shared others didn’t realise it was the soap star.
He admitted he plans to travel on a canal boat but does not miss having to empty the “poo tank twice a week anymore”.
