Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson admitted she was feeling “a bit sad” when she put up some emotional Instagram posts in reaction to 16-month-old Star Hobson’s shocking murder. The radio host went on to apologise to her 1.7 million followers, suggesting that lots of people “don’t want to be brought down at this time of year”.
A few hours ago, Hits Radio host Gemma posted a video captioned: “Sorry for the doom and gloom… Just felt a little sad today.”
In the video, she explained: “Sorry my page has been a bit doom and gloom today guys.
“I was just really annoyed when I’ve seen all that in the news. It’s just shocking isn’t it?
“But I know lots of us don’t want to be brought down at this time of year. So keep it up, keep everyone together.
“There’s only one person for that isn’t there?” she added, grinning at her Hits Radio co-star Wes Butters, who was messing around mischievously in the background.
“Wes and Matt are on hand though to pick me up!” she wrote in the caption.
Gemma’s video came after Savannah Brockhill was found guilty of murdering her partner’s daughter, 16-month-old Star Hobson.
Her mother Frankie Smith was also convicted of causing or allowing her death at Bradford Crown Court.
Taking to Instagram, mother-of-one Gemma posted a heartbreaking photo of Star with a huge bruise on her cheek.
Next to it she wrote: “How the hell is this missed??? How! This beautiful little girl was brutally murdered at home!
“I’m genuinely broken seeing all of this child abuse. I can’t understand it…
“I hope the two evil women who did this rot in prison after being beaten repeatedly!”

After posting another photo of Star dressed in pink with a ribbon in her hair, Gemma called on the Prime Minister to take action.
She wrote: “Thousands and thousands of children and babies have been abused during lockdown alone.
“Here’s an idea Boris, send an army to frigging child abusers’ houses instead of vaccine centres.
“Do something about this country and what’s happening behind covid!”
Gemma is a proud mum to daughter Mia, who was born July 4, 2019.
The former glamour model shares her child with Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Gorka Márquez, whom she became engaged to in February of this year.
The actress met Gorka while competing on Strictly back in 2017.
Gemma has starred in many famous soaps in her time, playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks between 2001 and 2005, Tamzin Bayle in Casualty (2011-2014) and Carly Hope in Emmerdale (2015-2017).
