Holly Willoughby admits she found Glastonbury 'freeing'

Holly Willoughby says she felt ‘free’ during three-day stint at Glastonbury and was able to ‘leave her worries at the gate’ amid Phillip Schofield woes

Holly Willoughby has admitted she found being at Glastonbury ‘freeing,’ as she put her recent woes with Phillip Schofield behind her and enjoyed a ’12-hour bender’ at the festival.

The presenter, 42, had such a wild time that she was forced to miss Monday’s edition of This Morning, confessing the next day she’d lost her voice following a weekend of partying.

Writing in her Wylde Moon newsletter, Holly told fans it was ‘pure magic’ listening to Elton John’s headline set with her husband Dan Baldwin, adding it was ‘humbling’ to watch his set as part of such a vast crowd.

Holly wrote: ‘Just what is it about going to a festival that makes you feel about 20 again? There’s something so freeing about it…as if you’ve entered a world that encourages you to leave life’s worries and responsibilities at the gate and let your hair down.

‘I spent three amazing days with incredible friends, listening to some of the best musicians on the planet – all whilst dancing like lunatics.

‘Music brings people together like nothing else. I cannot begin to imagine how it must feel as an artist looking out at a Glastonbury crowd to see the faces of each and every person singing your lyrics.

‘Never was this more poignant than the crowd singing back to Lewis Capaldi on Saturday, which was probably one of the most touching moments of the weekend.

‘Thanks to the amazing weather, Glastonbury also gave great moon…beginning the weekend as a sliver of a moon that built to almost a half-moon by the end.

‘I kept looking up at the night sky during the headline acts to see Mama Moon in all her glory, presiding over all of us.

‘It’s so rare in the UK to have clear skies on consecutive evenings to watch her move through her phases. What a treat.

‘This week brings us the Waxing Gibbous Moon, the lunar phase of reflection. I should think I’ll be doing a lot of reflecting and reminiscing this week given all the memories we’ve just made.

‘When I think back, the feeling of being part of the crowd who witnessed Elton John perform his farewell show, is so humbling.

‘I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues is such a special song for Dan and I and I’m filled with nostalgic warmth when I remember all the moments we’ve listened to it together. Pure magic.’

Have fun? On Tuesday Holly returned to This Morning, admitting she’d lost her voice after a weekend of partying at Glastonbury

On Tuesday Holly returned to This Morning, admitting she’d lost her voice after a weekend of partying at Glastonbury.

While she may have had a day to rest, Holly wasn’t fully recovered by the time she returned to the show, with co-host Craig Doyle remarking on her croaky voice.

As he probed: ‘Is that a summer cold is it? Allergies? Pollen?’ Holly quipped: ‘I’ve been offically Glasto-d! That’s what this voice is.

‘It’s always my first thing to go and actually I blame Elton John for this because – did you see him on stage? It was just so amazing, it was one of the best bits.’

She continued: ‘The whole weekend was incredible but to finish on this moment and I sang my socks off and now I sound like this! But honestly I just had the best weekend ever.’

Earlier in the day, Holly shared snaps from her Glastonbury trip on Tuesday, taking to Instagram to share a glimpse at her time at the festival.

One snap saw her posing with a pal in a white broderie anglaise dress and cowboy-style hat as the sun set behind her, while in another she looked out on the stage as her husband Dan Baldwin put his arm around her in a rare PDA.

Holly – who missed Monday’s This Morning due to the festival – reportedly enjoyed a boozy 12-hour day out at Glastonbury on Friday, when the Arctic Monkeys headlined.

She partied and danced with the likes of Princess Eugenie, Peter Crouch, actor Jamie Dornan and Lily James until the early hours of the morning, according to The Sun.

Holly missed Monday’s This Morning as she travelled back from the festival and Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson filled in for her. She will return for Tuesday’s programme.

The star was spotted arriving at the hotly-anticipated festival by helicopter along with Dan.

It was her first big public outing since Phillip stepped down from ITV, as he admitted to having an affair with a much younger male This Morning colleague.

Video footage obtained by the publication showed Holly having the time of her life as she put her worries behind her and danced the night away.

A source told The Sun of her day at the festival: ‘Holly was laughing and joking with her friends from the moment she touched down.

‘They had access to the VIP Winnebago camping area but Holly seemed keen to get among the crowds.’

Holly was said to have watched headliners the Arctic Monkeys in the crowds with footballer Peter Crouch and his wife Abbey Clancy.

The presenter was also said to have socialized in the VIP area before partying at The Rabbit Hole with the likes of actress Lily and Irish star Jamie until 2am.

An onlooker added: ‘She was dancing non-stop and having a ball. It was clear the stress of the past couple of months had subsided and Holly looked happier than ever.’

It comes after her former co-host Phillip, 61, resigned from ITV and was dropped by his agency YMU after admitting to an ‘unwise, but not illegal’ affair with a younger male colleague.

Drama: Since returning to This Morning on June 5, Holly has brushed off the drama surrounding Phillip Schofield’s exit and has presented This Morning with a rotation of co-hosts

Since returning to This Morning on June 5, Holly has brushed off the drama surrounding Phillip’s exit and has presented This Morning with a rotation of co-hosts.

The tryst was kept secret for years until Phillip admitted to The Mail on Sunday he had lied about it having been just rumours.

He went on to confess he had misled his employer ITV, his colleagues, his friends and his then agents at the management firm YMU.

Then, in an extraordinary series of mea culpa interviews, he apologised for all of the hurt he had caused.

It sparked an extraordinary domino effect for the show and ITV, with Holly having to issue a statement saying she knew nothing about it.

But Phillip insisted he had not ‘groomed’ the man, despite first meeting him when he was 15.
