The Princess of Wales braved the wet weather as she attended the England vs Papua New Guinea Rugby League World Cup 2021 Quarter Final match at the DW Stadium in Wigan on Saturday 5 November.
Kate, 40, who is Patron of the Rugby Football League, wore a red coat and black boots as she took to the pitch holding a black umbrella.
The Princess, who will host the Westminster Christmas carol service in memory of the Queen, was seen chatting to the England and Papua New Guinea teams, and at one point she was seen crossing her fingers to show her support for England.
She also joined a minute of non-silence, held to mark the tournament’s Movember Mental Fitness Match Day, before taking her seat to watch the match.
As she took to her seat, Kate was seen chatting to TV presenter Clare Balding.
During half time, she will have the opportunity to meet members of the England Women’s Rugby League following their match against Canada.
Ahead of the game, Kate spoke with representatives from groups who have played an integral part in the delivery of the Social Impact Programme, which was launched in June 2018.
The match will be the first that the Princess has attended since becoming Patron earlier this year.
The Rugby League World Cup 2021 marks a breakthrough moment in the history of the tournament, with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair World Cup competitions being staged alongside one another for the first time.
The tournament will also be the most visible Rugby League event in history with all 61 games in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions being broadcast live on the BBC.
It comes after Kate and husband Prince William enjoyed a playdate with children as they undertook a royal engagement on Thursday,
The couple were seen visiting children at a nursery in the Rainbow Centre in Scarborough where they took a tour around the facilities and spent some time interacting with the children.
They were seen laughing and smiling as they interacted with the children and staff at the centre, which offers help and support to local people in need.
Kate looked radiant in a smart outfit that featured an elegant dress and long coat in a camel-coloured hue.
She also wore a pair of light brown stiletto heels and clutched a small handbag in one hand, completing her outfit with a small red poppy for Remembrance Day pinned to her coat.
The couple were greeted by a large crowd as they arrived at the event, before heading inside to meet the children and the staff, to talk about the Rainbow Centre’s work in helping members of the local community.
Earlier that day, the Prince and Princess first travelled to The Street – a community hub that hosts local organisations, helping them to grow and develop their services.
